Fishing in South Point

Went fishing in South Point. Caught pathetically tiny fish. I need to learn more tricks.

Kona Coffee

Took a quick trip to Kona, visiting a coffee farm owned by a friend's friend and her husband. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I do like coffee farms.

Mckenzie State Park

Caution: turn down the volume before you play the video. It's a little loud.

It's a park standing on a 20 feet cliff by the ocean. The waves were so high the day we were there.

Flower & Fruit

This heliconia has finally bloomed!

Cherimoya is another funny looking fruit that tastes like...icecream?

On Hamakua Coast

We went to a friend's birthday party on Hamakua Coast located 1/2 north of Hilo. The house is on 1.2 acres of land with nice view of the ocean, yet far enough to avoid all the salt in the winds.

After a run of bad luck

I went fishing and came back empty-handed 4 times in a row. Finally the bad spell on me was lifted today with this colorful fish. We ate it with much gratitude.

Squash

We've been successful in growing squash in our backyard. It's going very strong despite the poor soil in our yard.

Keeping in mind

These things take such a long time decompose? From now on and out I'll try to pick up other peoples trash when I go fishing.

Pana`ewa Zoo

It's a free zoo with amazing animals in spectacular landscaping.

This parrot's name is Einstein. He gets a Mohawk when excited.

Aflac!!!
Hawaiian Hawk, Io, lives only on Big Island.

Meet Namaste, a 10 year old white Bengal tiger, born in Las Vegas and hand-fed by a magician Dirk Arthur. Such a graceful animal!

Blue and Yellow Macaw, who looked more civilized than the last time.

Pigmy goat. Super cute. He loves carrots.

Peacocks are not caged at the zoo.

Titan Triggerfish

Typical fishing day. You never know if you can get lucky.
And I did!

After searching online, I found out it was Titan Triggerfish. It grows up to 30 inches long. I should probably have released this small one (8 inches) but I didn't know! It ended up on our dinner plate, and it was yummy!

Rum Jaboticaba

After a couple of harvests, our freezer is now full of frozen Jaboticaba. So we decided to make Jaboticaba-flavored rum. Rum, Jaboticaba (fresh, not frozen), and sugar tossed in a jar. Let's see how it will turn out.

Dejavu

I was going through old pictures on my PC today, and came across this shot, taken at Newport Aquarium in Kentucky around March 2005. Little did I know back then that I was going to move to Hawaii and see somebody catch this fish before my eyes.

It's called Broomtail, notorious for stealing bait off the hook. I'd like to catch one of these sometime. Fingers crossed!

Another spot, another fish

My guru and I went to try out a new spot. I caught a couple of new faces, all too small to take back home. All I need is one mature-sized fish and I'm done for the day!
